Installation of 2 × 300 Ton HPDC machines.
What the plant needed.
A twelve-machine UBE fleet spanning five tonnage classes, from 165 to 800 Ton, needed modernising without taking the whole floor out of production. Control platforms were ageing and spares for the original electronics were becoming difficult to source.
The plant could not afford a shutdown, so the programme had to be structured around continuous output — every machine returned to service before the next was taken down.

Complete retrofit and modernisation of 3 × 350 Ton, 3 × 630 Ton, 2 × 800 Ton, 2 × 500 Ton and 2 × 165 Ton machines.

Assess
We survey the machines on site, record their condition and agree the order of work with the plant.
Rectify
Mechanical, hydraulic and control work is carried out machine by machine so production continues around it.
Commission
Each machine is tested under load and handed back before the next one is taken down.

Four workstreams, run machine by machine so the plant kept producing throughout the programme.

- 01 Control retrofit Complete control retrofit with current-generation drives, replacing electronics that were no longer supportable.
- 02 Hydraulic overhaul Hydraulic system overhaul with valve replacement, restoring clean pressure and repeatable movement.
- 03 Shot-end rebuild Shot-end rebuild and accumulator servicing, bringing injection performance back into specification.
- 04 Phased changeover Machine-by-machine changeover to protect plant output, with each unit back in production before the next came down.
Back in production.
The fleet was modernised machine by machine over four years, each one returned to production before the next was taken down, so the plant never lost more than a single machine at a time.
